Gold Rim Tang

Acanthurus nigricans

The Gold Rim Tang is also called the whitecheek surgeonfish or powder gray surgeonfish. The Gold Rim Tang is a strong swimmer and loves to dart around rapidly moving water sources. Its principal diet is algae, as it is an herbivore (plant eater). It’s body is purplish-blue and has a small white spot under its eye. The body is also rimmed with a bright yellow against the top and bottom (dorsal and anal) fins. Gold Rim Tangs are omnivores, which means they will eat both plants and animals, preferring seaweed and algae.

Gold Rim Tangs are native to Hawaii and Indonesia.
